I've come full circle on Pedro Martinez, when the season ended I wanted the Mets to move on from Pedro and either give the spot to Jon Niese or bring in a veteran for the spot. But now as time has past I think Pedro would be our best option as the fifth starter and when he goes on the disabled list it will be an opportunity for Jon Niese to get some no pressure spot starts. Rem. Pelfrey turned the corner not in the rotation but in a spot start in Atlanta at the end of the '07' season....
And don't count out Pedro Martinez just yet. As long as Petey remains unsigned, the Mets are bound to be a factor, and they could easily add him after Lowe or Perez. Martinez liked playing for the Mets. But will he fit as a back end of the rotation starter? And at what price? That seems difficult to gauge at this point, but it will be interesting to follow in the days and weeks ahead. source Newsday
