2009 Mets Battle cry

“It takes more than five superstars to win a World Series. Tonight was a total team effort. Stokes comes in, in that situation, and gets the best hitter in baseball to hit in to a double play. That’s what it’s going to take, you know. Fernando Martinez gets on a plane, shows up in the seventh, and gets a bunt down… Murphy hits a home run. You know, it’s a total team effort. If you’re gonna talk about team wins, tonight was a great example and that’s what we need to do.” : source Metsblog

Interest in Cora...

It was reported earlier today that the Mets are expressing interest in Alex Cora. One thing is clear Omar is looking for a specific type of player for the bench, a guy who could start at either 2B or SS but will accept a role as a utility player. Nick Punto has signed with the Twins so it appears that Omar is looking at Cora a very similar player...

The 33 y/o left handed hitter who plays mostly 2B/SS but has had some experience at 3B and the outfield. He is a lifetime .313 /.348 /.245 hitter.

The Mets have set their sites on free agent Alex Cora to serve as the understudy for Jose Reyes. Cora would fill a role that has been mostly vacant in a traditional sense since Reyes arrived in the big leagues in 2003 and through the unsuccessful Kaz Matsui experiment. source MLB.com
