No Hudson and not for Castillo

It's true Orlando Hudson is a three time gold glove winner and an all-star with a lifetime BA of .282. He is media savvy and said to be a great clubhouse presence. At 30 y/o the switch hitter would be a great addition to any ball club but at what cost. Hudson is rumor to want five years but could be talked down to a three year deal, regardless of the length he's looking for 10 mil. a year which prices him out in my book. I'm sure someone will pay him 10 mil. a year, the length of the deal will be a different story. But Hudson has missed time in Sept. for the last two seasons due to injuries and all reports indicate his range is decreasing. Hudson's contract could make Castillo's look good if he's signed to a three year 10 mil. contract. I would pass on Hudson whether Castillo is here or not, not because he wouldn't be a good pick-up but long term it's not in our best interest.....

It's true NY can be a brutal place to play especially if you get on the wrong side of the fans but we also love a comeback story just ask Fernando Tatis or Carlos Delgado. I hope Joel Sherman gets some juicy insider stuff for the fluff piece he put out today on Castillo. I'm not sure whether it was to make Louie more appealing to other teams or to get Mets fans off his back. I said a while ago if Castillo showed the desire to play winter ball then maybe we should give him a second chance. He came to camp out of shape after under going knee surgery and I'm sure he rushed backed, things snowballed from there. While not making excuses for him there may have been other things going on which attributed to his down fall.

If Castillo can be moved to fill another whole say in left field in a swap of players who need a change of scenary and are on bad contracts I'm all for it but I still wouldn't want Hudson at 10 mil. a year.

At this point I'd rather see the team give Castillo another chance and bring a utility player who could replace him if necessary but could also provide depth. There are many players who could be signed and play second base full time if needed while being solid bench players. Both Castillo and these players would cost the same or less then what Hudson is asking.

Here are few players who would fit that bill; David Eckstein, Adam Kennedy, Tony Graffanino, Marcus Giles or Jerry Hairston Jr.

"He wanted to let the front office know that he was disappointed in how the year went, and promise to do everything he could to get in shape and be the kind of player he had been for 10 years," Minaya said. source NY Post
