Well I asked late Tuesday night why Murphy hadn't been playing and I got my answer. Not only was he resting a sore/sprained knee but he was being flown back to NY for an MRI. Even when these are just precautionary measures it always makes me nervous, when the team is willing to spend that much money to bring a player all the way back here for one of their doctors.
Of course, first and foremost is the well being of Dan and hopefully it's nothing....
But no matter how you view Murphy this couldn't come at a worse time.......
If you see him as a player that a National League team will always struggle to find a defensive position, then this was a perfect time to move him when his value was extremely high. Not only will this hurt his value but it will also put him at best as a PTBNL if not exclude him from trades all together....
While those who see him as a starter next year and a major contributor, now have to wonder what impact the injury will have on his performance. Does the injury make finding a left fielder more of a priority instead of a back burner issue. Omar faces the same situation he had last year with Church, if Murph misses significant time they need to replace him but if he can return then does replacing him create a log jam,,...
As I said before hopefully it's nothing that a little rest won't fix and he'll be back to playing in no time....
This doesn't sound good.
Mets left fielder and rising star Daniel Murphy was flown back to New York from the Arizona Fall League last night for an MRI exam this morning on his ailing right knee. source NY Post
