The Mets have been down playing John Maine's chances of pitching out of the pen, but the young starter has continued to push the issue and it looks like that might have paid off. What appeared to be a bullpen session to just go through the motions of appeasing Maine might have won him a chance to give it a go. Maine throwing mostly fastballs and sliders impressed Manuel enough that he now sounds optimistic about giving him a try out of the pen.....
"He threw very well," Manuel said. "I was impressed with the life he had on a number of pitches. It's a situation where we can be a little more optimistic at this point. (But) it depends on how he responds and those types of things." source Daily News
