I know he's older, which automatically turns some Mets fans off and he isn't a power hitter anymore but if any team could use a consistent .300 hitter it's the Mets. Brian Giles also brings alot of intangibles to the table and couldn't block a trade to the Mets. After passing at the deadline Omar said he thought it would be a very active waiver wire this year and the Mets would be involved. Well some how every National league team passed on Giles and the Red Sox won the claim on him, as I see it Giles would have been a very good fit.......
- Batting average that is consistently held around .300 (lifetime .293 BA)
- Solid defensive skills in all three outfield positions ( granted getting too old for center)
- Solid clubhouse figure & good mentor to younger players
- Feisty/Scrappy gamer type personality
- Post Season experience
- Off the books at the end of the year
