2009 Mets Battle cry

“It takes more than five superstars to win a World Series. Tonight was a total team effort. Stokes comes in, in that situation, and gets the best hitter in baseball to hit in to a double play. That’s what it’s going to take, you know. Fernando Martinez gets on a plane, shows up in the seventh, and gets a bunt down… Murphy hits a home run. You know, it’s a total team effort. If you’re gonna talk about team wins, tonight was a great example and that’s what we need to do.” : source Metsblog

"Don't feel sorry for the Metropolitans." - Alex Cora, yelling what seems to have become his motto for this team : source NJ.Com

Was Omar asleep at the wheel.....Giles

I know he's older, which automatically turns some Mets fans off and he isn't a power hitter anymore but if any team could use a consistent .300 hitter it's the Mets. Brian Giles also brings alot of intangibles to the table and couldn't block a trade to the Mets. After passing at the deadline Omar said he thought it would be a very active waiver wire this year and the Mets would be involved. Well some how every National league team passed on Giles and the Red Sox won the claim on him, as I see it Giles would have been a very good fit.......

  1. Batting average that is consistently held around .300 (lifetime .293 BA)

  2. Solid defensive skills in all three outfield positions ( granted getting too old for center)

  3. Solid clubhouse figure & good mentor to younger players

  4. Feisty/Scrappy gamer type personality

  5. Post Season experience

  6. Off the books at the end of the year
Also getting claimed today was Chad Bradford who went to the Rays for a PTNL. Waiver claims go by standings in the players own league and then standings by the opposite league. So we never had a chance to claim Braford since in stayed in the AL and bolstered the pen of the first place Rays. If Omar did want him and thought the price was too high at the deadline, his calculated risk to get him off waivers didn't work and with the pen imploding daily that might turn out to be a grave mistake.........
