Another minor league pitcher wants to help....

Many have heard the names Jon Neise and Bobby Parnell as possible call ups in Sept., both are in AAA New Orleans and have had mixed results. Parnell was bombed in his last outing and has an ERA of 7.43 with a record of 1-2. Neise has had four two run outings including tonight and two four run outings, his ERA is 3.65 with a 4-1 record. John Maine and Mike Pelfrey may need at least one game off to rest their arms, if not more. The Mets will probably use Brian Stokes for one of those spot starts but after that there really isn't a clear cut choice.

They already have RHP Ruddy Lugo ( 7-11/ 4.95 ERA) and LHP Willie Collazo ( 4-8/ 4.03 ERA) on the 4o man roster, both have been starting in New Orleans. The Mets have one extra spot on the 40 man roster and without waiving a player could move three players from the 15 day to the 60 day DL (O. Hernandez, J. Vargas and Matt Wise) which would allow them to be replaced on the roster. Nelson Figueroa ( 4-7/ 4.43 ERA ), Brandon Knight ( 5-1 / 1.60 ERA) and Claudio Vargas (5-2 / 4.36 ERA ) all have experience and could be recalled.

The Mets have another minor league pitcher who would like consideration, Jose Sanchez. At 24 y/o and not coming from college, Sanchez has been considered slow to develop. After struggling last year in AA he is repeating the league and appears to have had a break through. The right hander has a fastball, slider, curve and changeup. The B-Mets posted an article on him which included a not very complimentary scouting report but despite scouts not being very impressed with him he had an All-star season. Sanchez projects to be a middle reliever/ROOGY but the Mets may need a starter and he may keep proving the experts wrong........

After a shaky 2007 campaign with Binghamton in which he went 4-9 with a 4.52 ERA in 27 starts, Sanchez has a 13-6 record in '08 and is one of the winningest pitchers in the Eastern League. This season, he has a 3.77 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 140 2/3 innings pitched. source MiLB
