2009 Mets Battle cry

“It takes more than five superstars to win a World Series. Tonight was a total team effort. Stokes comes in, in that situation, and gets the best hitter in baseball to hit in to a double play. That’s what it’s going to take, you know. Fernando Martinez gets on a plane, shows up in the seventh, and gets a bunt down… Murphy hits a home run. You know, it’s a total team effort. If you’re gonna talk about team wins, tonight was a great example and that’s what we need to do.” : source Metsblog

Mets really hunting for a lefty reliever

It's highly unlikely that Omar plans to go with four left handed relievers, two of the three current lefties are pitching very well in Billy Wagner and Scott Schoewneweis. The Mets aren't just looking into left handed closers but any decent left handed reliever in the majors. They must be really concerned about Pedro Feliciano who has struggled lately, in July Pedro 2 has an ERA of 15.75 ( 8 gms. / 4 innings) with an overall ERA of 4.21.

Brian Tallet - 31 y/o, 0-1, ERA 3.03, SO 25, 38.2 innings pitched

Jack Tascher- 30 y/o, 2-1, ERA 3.18, SO 34, 34 innings pitched

Arthur Rhodes- 39 y/o, 2-0, ERA 2.75, SO 24, 1-2 SVO, 19.2 innings pitched

The Mets continue to comb the market for left-handed late-inning relief help. They've checked in with the Blue Jays about Brian Tallet and the Giants about Jack Taschner. As of Thursday, they still believed they had a chance to acquire lefty reliever Arthur Rhodes from Seattle, even though the Marlins are in hot pursuit as well. Texas has told them that lefty Eddie Guardado is not available. source Star Ledger
