RHP Brandon Knight is a 33 y/o right handed journeyman pitcher who came up twice between 2001-2002 with the Yankees in which he put up a 10.71 ERA in 11 relief appearances. It's not that Knight has dominated the minors and never been given a shot since his days with the Yanks, he's been a mediocre minor league pitcher. In 10 seasons between double A and triple A Knight has an ERA of 4.35 with a WHIP of 1.35. The Mets signed him on 5/28/08 to a minor league deal and since then he has been close to perfect. Knight after tonight's game has an ERA of 1.60 in 10 appearances, four starts. Tonight he tied a Zephyrs club record by striking out 12 and did not allow a run over six innings, while giving up three hits and three walks. As a reliever in 6 games ( 9 innings) batters are hitting .143 and he has not allowed a run. Righties are hitting .163 while lefties are hitting .206. Knight was selected for team USA for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games which will take place Aug. 8-24. The Mets aren't carrying a long man, with Pedro a health risk and Maine only lasting into the fifth twice in a row at least they know they have one available, if they can only find a roster spot for him..........
2009 Mets Battle cry
“It takes more than five superstars to win a World Series. Tonight was a total team effort. Stokes comes in, in that situation, and gets the best hitter in baseball to hit in to a double play. That’s what it’s going to take, you know. Fernando Martinez gets on a plane, shows up in the seventh, and gets a bunt down… Murphy hits a home run. You know, it’s a total team effort. If you’re gonna talk about team wins, tonight was a great example and that’s what we need to do.” : source Metsblog
