2009 Mets Battle cry

“It takes more than five superstars to win a World Series. Tonight was a total team effort. Stokes comes in, in that situation, and gets the best hitter in baseball to hit in to a double play. That’s what it’s going to take, you know. Fernando Martinez gets on a plane, shows up in the seventh, and gets a bunt down… Murphy hits a home run. You know, it’s a total team effort. If you’re gonna talk about team wins, tonight was a great example and that’s what we need to do.” : source Metsblog

Jerry likes Barry....

With both starting corner outfielders missing significant portions of the season and the trading deadline looming around the corner, there has been speculation as to who the Mets will add. In true Omar fashion he has down played the necessity of adding another outfielder, which is just code for I don't wanna be robbed by looking desperate. This years offense is missing a true power hitter, in the means of a Carlos Delgado of 2006 a guy who every time he comes to the plate it could be gone. But I don't see that type of player available unless your willing to take on Milton Bradley's baggage ( which I am but most fans aren't), could someone pry Carlos Lee from the Stros probably at the right price, the same could be said of Nady and Bay but we can't afford those guys. There are plenty of nice role players that I think we could add, I mentioned Casey Blake last night and have heard Hank Blalocks name mentioned but these guys wont have the impact I think this offense needs. So of course the conversation turns back to Barry Bonds, it seems like his name has come up all season. If you forget the circus that surrounds him he would be the perfect fit to part-time in left with Alou and have Endy fill-in when both are down, but because of the circus I have been absolutely against bringing him in. Well after Church's most recent set back and Alou's slow recovery Bond's name came up again and while Omar was evasive, Jerry pretty much seemed to like the idea........

"Oooh, Barry Bonds," Manuel said before the Mets beat the Phillies 10-9 in the series finale last night. "That would be interesting. That would make your jobs [in the media] easy. You'd have something every day to do."

Manuel then turned diplomatic after being pressed by the team's PR chief, Jay Horwitz, to "plead the Fifth" on the topic of Bonds.

"I don't know Barry as personal as everyone knows him," Manuel said. "But the talent . . . he's a very special player." source Daily News
