According to CBS sports the Mets have released Chris Aguila, on July 11th the Mets sent Aguila down to make room for Robinson Cancel. It was his second stint with the major league team in which he appeared in 8 gms. ( 12 ABs) batting .167. His only memorable play in the field was a bad one when he let a ball drop in front of him that could have been caught resulting in a big inning while Johan was on the mound during a losing streak. If he was released I'm surprised, he seemed like a typical AAAA insurance policy in New Orleans who could be recalled when needed and make it through waivers on the way back down. Aguila was doing very well in AAA, in fact he was selected to the PCL All-Star team. The Mets don't need the roster room, there only carrying 39 players and that's without placing Alou on the 60 day. They must not feel that he's even an adequate call-up candidate.
2009 Mets Battle cry
“It takes more than five superstars to win a World Series. Tonight was a total team effort. Stokes comes in, in that situation, and gets the best hitter in baseball to hit in to a double play. That’s what it’s going to take, you know. Fernando Martinez gets on a plane, shows up in the seventh, and gets a bunt down… Murphy hits a home run. You know, it’s a total team effort. If you’re gonna talk about team wins, tonight was a great example and that’s what we need to do.” : source Metsblog

Did the Mets finally fill up the 40-man roster? Could this be a prelude to a deal?
