2009 Mets Battle cry

“It takes more than five superstars to win a World Series. Tonight was a total team effort. Stokes comes in, in that situation, and gets the best hitter in baseball to hit in to a double play. That’s what it’s going to take, you know. Fernando Martinez gets on a plane, shows up in the seventh, and gets a bunt down… Murphy hits a home run. You know, it’s a total team effort. If you’re gonna talk about team wins, tonight was a great example and that’s what we need to do.” : source Metsblog

"Don't feel sorry for the Metropolitans." - Alex Cora, yelling what seems to have become his motto for this team : source NJ.Com

Tigers looking to move set-up man

No sorry not Joel Zumaya but the guy who effectively filled in for him while he was injured. Denny Bautista is a 27 y/o right handed relief pitcher who produced an ERA of 3.32 in 16 appearances ( 19 innings), he allowed one home run and only seven runs. Until this year his numbers have not been pretty bad on the major league level, but he has been traded by four consecutive teams (Marlins, Orioles, Royals, Rockies,) which tells me scouts see something that has been thus far untapped. Bautista has a very strong connection to Pedro Martinez and maybe after his effective start in Detroit along with finally having a team where he has roots, he could flourish.

Pedro, then one of baseball's outstanding starting pitchers, mentored Bautista and trained with him during the off-season. The relationship between the two has been reported, variously, as first cousin and second cousin, with Bautista at one point denying there was a connection at all. Bautista finally confirmed that he and Martínez are second cousins through Bautista's mother. source Wikipedia

With Zumaya returning the Tigers are out of roster room and are openly shopping Bautista. For a closer look, here's a video of him striking out eight Angels when he was with the Royals..

Dave Dombrowski said he is optimistic he will be able to trade right-hander Denny Bautista this week. Bautista's contract was designated for assignment Friday to clear a roster spot for right-hander Joel Zumaya. source Detroit Free Press

If we could expand a package to include Marcus Thames or Brandon Inge that would be ideal.
