2009 Mets Battle cry

“It takes more than five superstars to win a World Series. Tonight was a total team effort. Stokes comes in, in that situation, and gets the best hitter in baseball to hit in to a double play. That’s what it’s going to take, you know. Fernando Martinez gets on a plane, shows up in the seventh, and gets a bunt down… Murphy hits a home run. You know, it’s a total team effort. If you’re gonna talk about team wins, tonight was a great example and that’s what we need to do.” : source Metsblog

Omar hears the call.....Aguila re-called

With all indications pointing towards Jose Valentin replacing Abraham Nunez on the active roster, most of what I read from around the blogosphere was opposed to bringing in another aging veteran. Valentin is hit less in AAA and while I understand the team wanting his leadership, a struggling offense just can't carry another weak bat. I'm all for bringing in Valentin if the team really feels he's that important to the clubhouse but replace a veteran with a veteran, DFA one of Chavez, Anderson or Easley to make room for him. Omar must be feeling the heat over some of his peculiar roster decisions as of late because he's finally recalling one of the hot hitting outfielders. The Daily News is reporting that the Mets are recalling Chris Aguila, I've been calling for this since Pagan went down.

Even if he falls on his face, at least their trying something new and hopefully a younger guy trying to prove himself will provide a spark for the team.

Aguila has been on a longball tear at Triple-A New Orleans. The 29-year-old outfielder, who was hitting .308 with 17 homers and 40 RBI as a Zephyr in 221 at-bats, has slugged eight homers in his last 11 games. He’s played nearly exclusively in left field for New Orleans. source Daily News
