There was a report that veteran pitcher Julian Tavarez wanted to play with the Mets. The 35 y/o right hander was DFA by the Red Sox and opted for free agency. Tavarez has a lifetime record of 84-71 with an ERA of 4.44. He can pitch in the rotation or out of the pen, if the Mets didn't have Tony Armas Jr. pitching so well in New Orleans I could see him being brought in as insurance but Vargas and Armas have that covered. Early today MLBTR reported that Tavarez was on the verge of signing with the Brewers.
Bartolo Colon is a good friend of Julian Tavarez. He said his old buddy wants to pitch for the Mets. At least that would his first preference, but there's no indication yet whether the Mets or any other team are willing to sign the free agent righty. source Boston Globe
