The Mets lost tonight's game to the Dodgers by the score of 5-1 and the game was basically over in the first inning when Oliver Perez gave up two runs. Almost on cue as Gary Cohen finished saying that Perez had only given up one home run this season and LA at night is notoriously a pitchers park, Perez gave up his first of three home runs on the evening. While he only walked one early on, the very next hitter knock in a two run homer. Just to add insult to injury the last homer was the first major league home run for the Dodgers rookie 3B. So Perez lasted six innings while only walked two batters but he still found away to lose and I think I saw several players rolling their eyes. It might be time to consider making a move to the pen, not only does it appear Ollie has lost his confidence but seems like the team behind him has as well. Armas has great numbers in New Orleans and would be able to jump right into the rotation.
But Ollie isn't the only one at fault for the loss, the offense was absolutely nowhere to be found. Other then the one run they did score, the only other opportunity they had was thwarted by Sandy Alomar Sr., holding Carlos Beltran at third with the bottom of the order coming up. Beltran was the only Met to have a multi-hit game. In fact the entire offense which is now the projected opening day order has only one player hitting over .300. Something gotta give either this offense is going to get hot and their going on a tare or a big slump is coming. They all can't collectively hit this bad without something giving. So right after lifting spirits with their inspired play in Arizona, they look like the team the Pirates beat 15-1 just before heading west.
2009 Mets Battle cry
“It takes more than five superstars to win a World Series. Tonight was a total team effort. Stokes comes in, in that situation, and gets the best hitter in baseball to hit in to a double play. That’s what it’s going to take, you know. Fernando Martinez gets on a plane, shows up in the seventh, and gets a bunt down… Murphy hits a home run. You know, it’s a total team effort. If you’re gonna talk about team wins, tonight was a great example and that’s what we need to do.” : source Metsblog
