2009 Mets Battle cry

“It takes more than five superstars to win a World Series. Tonight was a total team effort. Stokes comes in, in that situation, and gets the best hitter in baseball to hit in to a double play. That’s what it’s going to take, you know. Fernando Martinez gets on a plane, shows up in the seventh, and gets a bunt down… Murphy hits a home run. You know, it’s a total team effort. If you’re gonna talk about team wins, tonight was a great example and that’s what we need to do.” : source Metsblog

I said we were missing a gamer

It's amazing when you see a professional athlete in the zone, especially when he's on your team. Players say that everything just feels right and everybody else seems to move slower while they're fast. The ball appears bigger and moves slower allowing them to do no wrong. I said after the first loss to the Phillies that the Mets were missing a gamer and Jose Reyes and Luis Castillo struggling maybe it was time to shuffle the batting order. I suggested putting Church in the two hole, with Castillo out stubborn Willie was forced to move someone into the spot. He selected Pagan and what a perfect fit for the spot ( I give Willie credit when its due), Pagan was the spark plug that fueled the offense. It even seemed that Pagan's energy rubbed off on the struggling Jose Reyes. What a 1-2 punch they turned out to be in extra innings, with Castillo possibly returning tonight I wonder what Willie will do ( I would bat Louie 8th). Anyway, what a great game, it's been a long time since I felt that excited after a Mets win. Nice to see the team with a little mojo................

Last night, Pagan was terrific again, delivering one of the most clutch hits of the Mets' season, slamming a game-winning RBI single in the Mets' 4-3, 12-inning victory over the rival Phillies at Shea Stadium. It was the final one of Pagan's three hits, as the fill-in left-fielder for the injured Moises Alou (hernia) continues to be a season-long sensation. Though the season is just eight games old, Pagan has been on base in every game and is hitting .370 in 27 at-bats. He has a gaudy .457 on-base percentage. source NY Post
