2009 Mets Battle cry

“It takes more than five superstars to win a World Series. Tonight was a total team effort. Stokes comes in, in that situation, and gets the best hitter in baseball to hit in to a double play. That’s what it’s going to take, you know. Fernando Martinez gets on a plane, shows up in the seventh, and gets a bunt down… Murphy hits a home run. You know, it’s a total team effort. If you’re gonna talk about team wins, tonight was a great example and that’s what we need to do.” : source Metsblog

Here's a reclamation project

Ken Davidoff of Newsday makes a case for the Mets obtaining Robinson Tejada. The Rangers DFA the 26 y/o right handed pitcher, who has played the last three years in the majors. He has pitched in the rotation and the pen, but over the last two seasons as his mechanics have deteriorated so have his numbers. His best year came as a 23 y/o rookie, he appeared in 26 gms ( 13 starts) for the Phillies in which he compiled a record of 4-3 with an ERA 3.57. I've never heard of this guy but I'm guessing were going to hear alot of these names until somebody steps up and takes control of the bottom of the rotation. Ollie looked great last night which should re-store all our confidence that we have the big three, but that still leave two spots. Will guys from within the organization be able to fill those spots or will they need to sign someone. Maybe a guy Tejada will be brought in on a minor league deal as insurance in New Orleans in case someone else goes down or someone faulters.........

So the Mets will think of low-cost, high-reward options to replace Pedro, and here's one possibility: Robinson Tejeda. The Rangers desginated Tejeda for assignment on March 30, so the Mets _ who have expressed interest in Tejeda in the past, according to an industry source _ shouldn't have to give up anyone of serious consequence. Maybe a lower-level prospect. Or, if they sense that no one else wants to trade for Tejeda, they could wait for Rangers GM Jon Daniels to put Tejeda on waivers and claim him (assuming no club with a worse record, which would get to choose prior to the Mets, wants him). source Newsday
