2009 Mets Battle cry

“It takes more than five superstars to win a World Series. Tonight was a total team effort. Stokes comes in, in that situation, and gets the best hitter in baseball to hit in to a double play. That’s what it’s going to take, you know. Fernando Martinez gets on a plane, shows up in the seventh, and gets a bunt down… Murphy hits a home run. You know, it’s a total team effort. If you’re gonna talk about team wins, tonight was a great example and that’s what we need to do.” : source Metsblog

Alou & Schneider update- could Aguila get the call

Marty Noble gives us an update on the condition of Moises Alou and Brian Schneider. Both of which don't appear any closer to returning, Alou missed his MRI due to the weather and Schneider is still receiving treatment. Alou's appointment has been re-scheduled for tomorrow and if he's going to be out for any significant time, I expect Omar will acquire a power right handed bat ( we can speculate on who that will be when the results are in). If Schneider goes on the DL I expect the Mets to bring up a player to fill-in. With two catchers already on the team, it will more then likely be a right handed hitter. Fernando Tatis has 8 HRs with a .529 Slg. pct but only has a BA of .225. Michel Abreu could be Delgado's right handed caddy but his average continues to decline and has now dipped to .256. And for those who still remember Ahern's incredible glove he is once again below .200 (.191) in AAA, a lead-off hitter with an OBP of .222 (ouch).

Chris Aguila is a name we haven't heard, the 29 y/o right handed outfielder is tearing it up in New Orleans. Aguila in 22gms (of 23gms) has had 72 at bats in which he is hitting .319 with a Slg. .542 ( 5 doubles, 3HRs, 8 RBIs). This is his first year in the Mets organization but has spent parts of three seasons in the majors with the Marlins (2003-2006). His longest stint came in 2005 when he hit .244 in 65 gms. Most of 2007 was lost to injuries while he was with the pirates AAA affiliate. He may only be a AAAA player, but those are the guys you bring up when their hot (like now) and then send back down as they cool off......

"Last year I went through some adversity, I never really got in a groove, and I was never really given the opportunity that I've been given over here," Aguila said. "My whole goal this offseason was to get back to where I was when I was with Florida. Just get my swing back and try to work on simplifying things, and that's what I've been trying to do here with Jack (Voigt, hitting coach) - just keeping a simple approach."

"He's one of our most consistent guys in having quality at-bats," Voigt said. "It shows in the way he prepares, how he handles his at-bats, you can tell he's spent three years in the big leagues. Hopefully, he will make his way back." source MiLB
