Adam Rubin of the Daily News is reporting that Steven Register has cleared waivers, I'm not that surprised because a team claiming him would have to abide by the rule five rules and no one can guarantee carrying him all year. Now he must be offered back to the Rockies who only have 38 players on the 40 man roster, the Rockies could keep him or work a deal out with the Mets.
Rule 5 pick Steven Register has cleared waivers, the Daily News has learned. The Mets are trying to work out a trade with the Rockies that would allow them to keep the reliever and place him in the minors. source Daily News
It now seems official that Ruben Gotay is on waivers and the kid seems to be taking it hard. I feel for the kid but reading the comment sections of some blogs I really think he's become a type of urban legend. I hope he passes through waivers and stays with the organization in the minors but if he moves on, in the big picture it's a minor move. I'll be surprised if Fernando Tatis makes the team but it's not a huge mistake or awful move, were talking about the last spot on the roster. Ruben Gotay is what he is an average utility player along the lines of Chris Woodward, Jeff Keppinger (who I dont believe will cont. hitting .330 just like I didn't think Gotay would hit .290), Miguel Cairo and many others who have come through the Mets bench, we won't lose a title if he's not on the team. In fact Tatis being picked over Brady Clark who is a right handed corner outfielder hitting .308 is more of a shock then Tatis beating out Gotay........
The Mets informed Ruben Gotay this morning that he is indeed on waivers and now must wait until later today or tomorrow to see if he is claimed.
Gotay was supposed to be on today's trip to Orlando, but with his duffel bag in front of him, he sat on his stool with tears in his eyes as he talked on his cell phone.
"I thought I did a good job last year," Gotay said. "I didn't think I deserved this. " source Newsday
