2009 Mets Battle cry

“It takes more than five superstars to win a World Series. Tonight was a total team effort. Stokes comes in, in that situation, and gets the best hitter in baseball to hit in to a double play. That’s what it’s going to take, you know. Fernando Martinez gets on a plane, shows up in the seventh, and gets a bunt down… Murphy hits a home run. You know, it’s a total team effort. If you’re gonna talk about team wins, tonight was a great example and that’s what we need to do.” : source Metsblog

Re-unite Patterson & Armas in NO ?

Omar has the opportunity to reunite the best Nationals staff in their brief history, with Tony Armas Jr already in minor league camp the Mets could sign John Patterson. MLBTR is reporting the Nationals just released Patterson, so far this spring he is 0-2 with an ERA 7.00 over nine innings ( 3 gms) he's allowed seven runs while striking out 7 and not allowing a walk. The Mets have had interest in Patterson in the past but the Nationals wanted either Milledge or Pelfrey.

Today the Nationals released oft-injured starter John Patterson, who hasn't had a healthy season since his excellent 2005. Patterson says he's healthy, but wasn't progressing as quickly as the Nationals had hoped. His velocity has been down this spring. Based on his comments he seems like a good guy; I'm sure he'll find work with another club. source MLBTR

Washington GM Jim Bowden has been on the phone a lot this week, and according to our D.C.-based source, “a lot of those calls have been the Mets and the Yankees”"Bowden is trying to sell the Mets on a John Patterson for Lastings Milledge deal, which the Mets have flatly refused. New York does have interest in Patterson, Jon Rauch and New Jersey's Jason Bergmann, but certainly not for Milledge, whose value may have lowered, but “not that low”.
