2009 Mets Battle cry

“It takes more than five superstars to win a World Series. Tonight was a total team effort. Stokes comes in, in that situation, and gets the best hitter in baseball to hit in to a double play. That’s what it’s going to take, you know. Fernando Martinez gets on a plane, shows up in the seventh, and gets a bunt down… Murphy hits a home run. You know, it’s a total team effort. If you’re gonna talk about team wins, tonight was a great example and that’s what we need to do.” : source Metsblog

First round of cuts

The Mets have announced the first round of cuts, there were no big surprises. Most of the guys sent down were minor leaguers who were invited to camp early for the experience. Top prospect LHP Jon Niese looked very good in his spring training start, Juan Padilla needs more time to recover and Kunz isn't quite ready for the majors yet. Mild surprises were reliever Andy Cavazos who I thought would get a longer look because of his MLB experience, Machado and Johnson because of all the injuries I also thought would hang around longer.

Left-handed pitcher Adam Bostick has been optioned to New Orleans (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League while the following players have been sent to minor league camp for re-assignment: Right-handed pitchers Robert Parnell, Eddie Kunz, Juan Padilla, Andy Cavazos, Brant Rustich, Ivan Maldonado, left-handed pitchers Jonathan Niese and Ryan Cullen, catchers Salomon Manriquez and Mike Nickeas, infielder Anderson Machado and outfielder Ben Johnson. source MLB.com
