2009 Mets Battle cry

“It takes more than five superstars to win a World Series. Tonight was a total team effort. Stokes comes in, in that situation, and gets the best hitter in baseball to hit in to a double play. That’s what it’s going to take, you know. Fernando Martinez gets on a plane, shows up in the seventh, and gets a bunt down… Murphy hits a home run. You know, it’s a total team effort. If you’re gonna talk about team wins, tonight was a great example and that’s what we need to do.” : source Metsblog

Mets get a reliever

No, it's not Matt Herges, Octavio Dotel or Shawn Chacon, think more along the line of Jason Strandridge or Jon Adkins. According to Rotoworld the Mets acquired 28 y/o right handed reliever Brian Stokes from the D-Rays. About the same time last year the Mets picked up Jason Strandridge from the Reds, he made it to pitchers and catchers before declining assignment and signing with the Royals.

Overall, Stokes was 3-7 with a 6.46 ERA in 64 career games with Tampa Bay. In 86.1 innings, he's yielded 121 hits, 62 runs, earned, with 34 walks and 50 strikeouts. source MLB.com

I saw this guy pitch a few games against that team on the other side of town. He was god awful. He throws hard is the only thing you can say about him but then again so does Octavio Dotel and a ton of other relievers in the league.
