2009 Mets Battle cry

“It takes more than five superstars to win a World Series. Tonight was a total team effort. Stokes comes in, in that situation, and gets the best hitter in baseball to hit in to a double play. That’s what it’s going to take, you know. Fernando Martinez gets on a plane, shows up in the seventh, and gets a bunt down… Murphy hits a home run. You know, it’s a total team effort. If you’re gonna talk about team wins, tonight was a great example and that’s what we need to do.” : source Metsblog

Forget Santana if Garza-Young goes down

According to the Star-Tribune the Twins and Rays are close to completing a multi-player deal with the main pieces being the Twins Matt Garza and the Rays Delmon Young. I think that if this deal goes down the Twins won't be as interested in dealing Santana. Their major outfield hole will be filled while they can hold onto Santana for 08 and use the draft pick they get when he goes free agent to replace Garza. The new Twins stadium is largely supported by public funding and the fans will not accept a complete rebuilding. But even if Santana is dealt I think we will be completely out of the running if this deal goes down, our strength is in the outfield prospects and teams clearly have better pitching prospects to offer. I've read all the reports today that Omar won't concede Santana and that he's going hard after him but I just can't see it happening with or with the Garza trade. I wish the Garza for Milledge or Gomez trade rumor had been accurate. What I was hoping was that one of the big three (NYY, Boston, LAD) had obtained Santana so they would be out of the running for the other starters available.

The Twins and Tampa Bay Rays are close to finalizing a multi-player deal, according to several sources with knowledge of the discussions. The deal could be announced as soon as today. The main pieces changning teams would be outfielder Delmon Young and righthander Matt Garza. But indications were strong on Wednesday that as many as six players could be involved. source Star Tribune
