2009 Mets Battle cry

“It takes more than five superstars to win a World Series. Tonight was a total team effort. Stokes comes in, in that situation, and gets the best hitter in baseball to hit in to a double play. That’s what it’s going to take, you know. Fernando Martinez gets on a plane, shows up in the seventh, and gets a bunt down… Murphy hits a home run. You know, it’s a total team effort. If you’re gonna talk about team wins, tonight was a great example and that’s what we need to do.” : source Metsblog

F-Mart to Shea ?

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports in his column today about Johan Santana discussed the prospects the Mets have to offer for the ace pitcher. It wasn't surprising that Carlos Gomez and Fernando Martinez were discussed as possible players involved in the trade, but what was surprising was a comment that some Mets officials believe Martinez could end up in Shea this year. Talk about a fast riser...

Gomez and the Mets' other top prospect, Fernando Martinez, currently are playing in the same outfield for the Escogido team in the Dominican winter league. Some in the Mets' organization believe that Martinez will make his major league debut next season — at age 19.

Up Date: One of the readers informed me that Martinez is not playing winter ball. As I've indicated; I'm not that familiar with the minors, aside from what I read. I have attempted without success to recruit a minor league guy for the site. Anyway, I found the roster for the 2007 Leones del Escogido, Gomez is listed while Martinez is not.
