Chicago-Sun Times is reporting that they believe Jermaine Dye will be moved and the cost will be a prospect two years away. If that is the case, I'll go on record now and say I'm all for it. I have waivered on obtaining Dye because of my concerns over his price, but if he cost say a Kevin Mulvey then I'm all for it. It's quite clear that the Mets need offense and that Dye would be a nice piece to the puzzle. Yes, he's 33 y/o and is only hitting .212. First of all in my opinion a player isn't considered older until they're 35 entering the season. Secondly Dye is a much better hitter then .212 he's on a bad team in a horrible line-up with no protection. Dye is a year removed from hitting 44HRs and being voted fifth on the MVP list with a lifetime BA of .277.
Dye will be moved, with the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets the leading candidates for his services, but the Sox likely will be stuck with Contreras. Don't expect an immediate game-changer coming to the South Side, either, with a prospect that is at least two years away the likely return.
